Actionnel Fleurisma, the head of Institution Classique de Bayonnais (ICB) School, opened the doors for the students from 6th grade to 13th grade on August 1st. The rising 10th graders were not expected to be in attendance as they were waiting for the results of their National Exam scores, but most returned to class that day as well.
Despite the country’s great political and economic difficulties, Parents are doing their best to make sure that their kids are going back to school. According to Actionnel, the first week with all the students has been a successful week!
The remainder of the students returned to school on September 11th. This is also the official day for going back to school all over Haiti. This day is a great victory for us at ICB where 84% of the registered students in the secondary school are already in school. The students could not wait to return to school. With many smiles, they seem very excited to be back to school to see each other after a couple of months vacation.
Charlesen Alcius, Principal of the Primary Section thinks that they have a good start this year, as more than 50% of the registered students were able to start the first week. As it is, Bayonnais usually take one month for all of the students to completely go back to school. “We are very satisfied with the first week,” said Charlsen.
This is a victory because students choose to go to school, which is one of the social institutions which can contribute to save Haiti.
Even though the number may seem small, it is still a victory for us. It is not uncommon for the first few days of school to not have all the students in attendance. We are looking forward to those students coming to school very soon. All teachers are very motivated to work hard and make this year a successful school year.
