Christmas in July

On July 27th, Ewo had it’s first ever “Christmas in July!”

SouthPark Church is my home church, so I though this would be a perfect venue to try a new kind of fundraiser to see if it might be something other churches might want to try. Older students can be harder to find sponsors for than younger ones and since students in Haiti attend school through 13th grade, I thought this might be the perfect way to get a child funded for just one year! When I shared this idea with our Outreach Team, they loved it so we got to work!!

Our goal was to get 2 students in 13th grade fully funded for their last year of school.

We set up 2 Christmas Trees in the Crossroads area where our congregation comes together for Coffee and Donuts after service. Each student had their own tree with “Angels” on them. Donors grabbed an angel (or two!) to help support the student’s education for $20 each. Relying on the proverb that “many hands make light work,” these smaller donations would go toward funding the yearly sponsorship cost of $480.

The support from my church family was overwhelming! The table was so busy I could barely keep up – 44 donors were processed through our database and easily a dozen more donated anonymously!! We ending up raising enough to sponsor THREE students to finish their last year of high school. What a great way for everyone to be able participate in the sponsorship program.
