Philosopher’s day, what is that?

January 28th is named “Philosopher’s Day” in Haiti for 2024. This day always occurs toward the end of January. Philosopher’s day is a special day for 13th graders all over the country. 13th grade is what we call “Philo” because “Philo” is the french translation of 13th grade. During this day, the 13th graders are responsible for managing the school for the day.

The 13th grade class president replaces Jean-Jonel as principal of the Secondary School. As a class, they also choose who is capable of teaching and in what subject he or she is good at. They teach in classrooms from 7th to 12th grade and follow the normal school schedule. They also become the staff management for the school on this day. They even replace the school guards.

“Participating in Philosopher’s day is always the most joyful day for a 13th grader, especially when you are chosen to be a teacher for the day. It is a day of self confidence and of being responsible especially for the13th graders who are going to be teachers in the future,” said Team Lead, Olguens Saint-Louis.
