As the Team Lead in the Ewo office in Bayonnais, I had the good fortune to interview a very special 13th grade student today! She is so nice and very determined in school.
Emmanuella Sainvilus is in 13th grade at the main campus in Cathor. She is 21 years old, has two (2) brothers and one (1) sister, and lives with her parents. This young lady walks 2 hours to go back and forth to school everyday. She started school at Institution Classique de Bayonnais (ICB) when she was in 7th grade.
Emmanuella was born with only one hand. She shared with us how she lives with her handicap. “I feel good with one hand. I do everything I want to do with it. I used to help my parents in the garden and with their activities at home. I cook, wash my clothes, clean my home, and do all the housework.” This is how Emmanuella lives at home.
She explained to me that she’s been treated both good and bad, by people in her neighborhood and by some of her classmates at school. “I have a lot of people in my neighborhood and some at school who treat me badly. In spite of it all, I have many other friends who encourage me, especially my classmates. They are always there for me and I am very proud of them. Olguens, Actionnel, and the principal of the school always remind me that only school can help my dreams become true.“
Emmanuella’s dream is to become a nurse to help her community. She wants to show others who have a handicap there is hope for them if they take their education seriously. She also thinks that this career can help her to earn a living while helping her family and her community.
