In spite of all kinds of hardships we have been facing as a community, Bayonnais has come together yet again to create another new chapter, which is being written and added to our history.
As you know, many things are happening in Haiti now, not many of them good. We are experiencing fuel shortages, political unrest, violence, kidnappings, and inflation of almost 50%. The Bayonnais community has decided to construct a Police Office to accommodate real and professional police officers to make sure that no gangsters or criminals have access to our community. Other cities in Haiti endure the wrath of gangs and criminals. We do not want them in Bayonnais.
On the 8th of November, 2022, 15 Bayonnaisians gathered together at the Family Hotel in Gonaives. The meeting was led by me, Jaccene Jacques (Bayonnaisian), and the Barrister of the lawyers in Gonaives, with the vision to reach a higher level of safety and security for Bayonnais. Since it was clear to everyone that safety was becoming exponentially more rare through the whole country of Haiti, we unanimously recognized and agreed that we had to undertake this initiative to protect our organized civil society in Bayonnais.
The official name for the organization we created is, “Bayonnais, Debout!” which stands for: “Bayonnais, Stand Up!” The organization will be led and managed by Jaccene Jacques.
Since 2015, 7 police officers have been receiving their salaries from the federal government on behalf of Bayonnais. But, there has never been a place to host them and to serve the 80,000 people community. The Bayonnaisians feel it is important to complete a building for the police to dwell in. The 4 individuals involved in the design and construction of the Police Office are all former students of the ICB school.
Nearly over 300 Bayonnaisians in Chili, Paris, Brazil, Canada, United States, Haiti, Dominican Republic and in Africa, including catholic and protestant churches in Bayonnais with witch doctors have pledged to financially support the project. This write-up has nothing to do with presenting a new project to our friends in America. It is not aimed to ask for financial support toward that project, which is vital for the entire Bayonnais.
Truly, the idea is to officially let all the lovers of Bayonnais know what is truly going on regarding safety for Bayonnais. It will take several years to fundraise and this project will be completed in phases. If you would like more information or to learn how you can help, please contact me and I can share more with you.
