During a recent sponsorship drive, our Missions and Outreach Committee worked with both Ewo &amp; Friends Empowering Haiti to put together a document that highlighted this partnership! As one of the Board Members for Ewo, I am excited to see Bayonnais featured in the life of our church!&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">1984<\/mark><\/strong> &#8211; Helen Hunter, of Charlotte, travels to Haiti to visit her daughter who was volunteering at EbenEzer near Gonaives, Haiti.<br><strong><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">1985<\/mark><\/strong><\/strong> &#8211; Helen Hunter, volunteers to sponsor a young man named Actionnel Fleurisma, first for his last two high school years, a year of accounting in Gonaives and for two years living with Helen and her husband, Ernest, while attending two years (1990-1992) at CPCC (Central Piedmont Community College) in Charlotte.<br><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">1991<\/mark><\/strong> &#8211; Helen and Ernest Hunter, Actionnel Fleurisma, Judy and David Nichols become some of the founding members of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church.<br><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">1993<\/mark><\/strong> &#8211; Actionnel Fleurisma and four friends found the OFCB school (Organisation de la Force Chretienne du Bayonnais = Organization of the Christian Force of Bayonnais).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">David and Judy Nichols<\/mark><\/strong> have led numerous mission trips to Haiti for SMPC members. <strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Judy Jones<\/mark><\/strong> has led the student sponsorship program for 15 years. <strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Pastor Matt Brown and wife Donna<\/mark><\/strong> visited in 2017. <strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">SMPC Youth<\/mark><\/strong> visited most recently in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">TODAY<\/mark><\/strong> &#8211; OFCB Ministries\u2019 main goal is to build a self-sustaining Bayonnais community while offering hope and opportunity for all. Many of the school\u2019s <strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">graduates return<\/mark><\/strong> to support the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ewohaiti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/church.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1182\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">FAITH<\/mark><\/strong><br>1995: Actionnel Fleurisma attended seminary and was ordained. The non-denominational church at OFCB: l\u2019Eglise Evangelique de Bayonnais was founded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ewohaiti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/class.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1183\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">EDUCATION<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">2,500 students in grades Pk &#8211; 13 on four campuses: Cathor, Nicolas, Zoranger and Bois-Neuf. Actionnel dreams of sponsorship for 1,000 students. Currently, there are 619 EWO student sponsorships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ewohaiti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/agronomy.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1180\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">AGRICULTURE<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The agronomy program offers workshops on soil conservation, erosion control, composting, insecticides and farming techniques.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ewohaiti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/clinic.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1184\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">MEDICAL CARE<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Bethesda Health Center of Bayonnais includes an in-house pharmacy and laboratory that serves approximately 80,000 people, or 200 patients a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ewohaiti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/bridge.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1181\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><mark style=\"background-color:#0693e3\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">SPECIAL PROJECTS<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Friends Empowering Haiti, churches, civic groups and other international aid organizations have supported bridge building, hunger relief, road repair, transportation, fresh water, generators and solar power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"154\" height=\"74\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-us.googleusercontent.com\/nedp55WlQyD0oYuDj-ayYsfA05VXGtsGkZl-BGRIk1y_XtQ9vY1velCW4I7tiypQ7OiBxbVG5e2VvbzzL9HbiH9HIYTUyghQZsOmYXGiiOSZ9DmF4wEmjBzdABU6sjs8ZqGJCYGJS9ZEl-GMoRSnuZw\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><em>Remembers weekly in prayer:<\/em><br><strong>Our mission partners in Bayonnais, Haiti.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church supports the OFCB schools and community projects in Bayonnais through prayer and through funding from the Missions Outreach funds as well as special drives. Many SMPC members are student sponsors ($40 month) through Ewo and\/or donate to special projects through Friends Empowering Haiti. The SMPC Alternative Gift Market provides opportunities for families and children to support schooling and other community needs in Bayonnais.
